Mini Makeover – New Floor Pan & Side Panel Fitted in a Day
Classic Minis might be small, but when it comes to bodywork repairs, they can be just as demanding as any larger car. This particular Mini needed a new nearside floor pan and side panel—quite a big job to complete in a day, but with careful planning and a bit of graft, it was all sorted with a result both the customer and I were happy with.
Step 1: Cutting Out the Old Panels
Just like with the Volvo Amazon floor repair, the first step was removing the corroded sections. Rust often spreads beyond what’s immediately visible, so careful cutting was needed to ensure only clean, solid metal remained before fitting the new panels.
Step 2: Welding & Strengthening
Once the affected areas were prepped, the new floor pan and side panel were carefully aligned and welded into place. Ensuring a precise fit was key—not only for the car’s structural integrity but also to maintain the Mini’s classic lines.
Step 3: Finishing Touches
After securing the panels, the welds were treated and sealed, with an overpaintable stone guard applied for added protection. The result? A solid, rust-free repair that will keep this Mini on the road for years to come.
The Takeaway
Big or small, classic car repairs need to be done right to ensure longevity. Taking the time to do a proper job means these beloved cars can keep running strong for decades. If your classic is in need of some structural work, getting it sorted sooner rather than later is always the best approach!
